ABOUT US
We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the lands we hold our workshops and pay respects to their Elders, past, present & emerging.
Principally based in Tasmania the Lampshade Workshops with Annie were born in 2019 from the love of recycling old and battered shades found in op shops, tip shops and on hard rubbish.
Recycling materials such as fabric, wall paper, shipping charts, old newspaper, seaweed and even doyleys became an obsession.
Fast forward through Covid times when have now hosted over 40 workshops held around Tasmania (Penguin, Evandale, Deloraine, Swansea, Cygnet, Hobart) NSW (Riverina, Far West, Central West and Central Coast), Victoria, (Gippsland, Bendigo, Shepparton, Murray region)
We love to do private groups ( 6-10 people) so hit us up for a date and host your own workshop.
We support and stock Australian textile designers who silkscreen, block print, etc or digitally print their fabrics. Fabrics of indigenous designers is supplied by companies authorised, licensed and paying royalties to the artists. Spotlight has been licensed to use these particular designs and pays a percentage of the price of each meter produced back to the community, however, the individual artists and Barbbarra designs retain all ownership of the designs.
We do our utmost to ensure ethical use and recognition and reward to all artists.
